WSJT versions up through 7.06 r1933 (referred to as colloquially as WSJT7) and earlier were aggregations of previous versions, and as such WSJT7 contained 16 different modes (FSK441, JT6M, JT65 variants A - C, JT2, JT4 variants A - G, WSPR, and a preview of JT64A). Currently, the program is written in Python and C, with several utilities written in Fortran. Although Joe Taylor was the original developer (and still acts as maintainer), several programmers are currently involved in writing the software. This licensing change required substantial rewrites and took several months to complete.

You can operate with just an interconnect cable from your old PC to the transciever and not have a blaring speaker to bother others or headphones to prevent you hearing the chow call.WSJT was originally released in 2001 and has undergone several major revisions. The right hand window has green stripes for CQs decoded, Red stripes for calls to your callsign, and yellow stripes to show what you are sending or have just sent. Messages beginning with CQ are on a green stripe. The operating window has two sides, the panel on the left sides shows all the signals decoded with time, strength, difference in time (why they will not decode) audio frequency in the USB passband, a symbol (# for JT65 and for JT9)., and the message received. The вЂњWide GraphвЂќ can be used to show who is answering your CQ or used to allow you to see signals to avoid to prevent QRM or let you see a signal skipping in on your audio frequency to cause QRM. There are two windows which will appear, the WSJY-X Wide Graph вЂќ window and вЂњWSJT-X v1.4.0-rc4 by K1JTвЂќ window. There is a box for вЂњ+2kHzвЂќ which changes the indicated frequency for JT9. The USB carrier (dial) frequencies are preprogrammed into the display, so for JT65 it is only necessary to set your transciever to USB-DATA or just USB and the dial to the desired frequency in the band. The WSJT-X program is set up to use either JT65 or JT9. It may take as long as a minute to successfully synchronize.

Before starting the program sync your computer clock either with a special program or the built-in windows date and time properties window where you select internet time and then update now.

Forget tail-ending, your call will happen at the start of the next minute.

Transmissions begin exactly on the minute and end a few seconds before the next minute. That means that the computer knows what time it is and looks for certain things based on the time.

The вЂњJTвЂќ programs such as these are set up synchronously. I am not a touch-typist so the вЂњstandard messagesвЂќ make it easy to make contacts using only the mouse and a few keystrokes.
